I would like to welcome everyone to my website. It was designed to showcase my Lake Fork guide service, sponsors and accomplishments.
Filled in 1979 with the primary sporting purpose of being a Bass Haven, Lake Fork exceeded the wildest expectations of sportsman. The 27,700 acre Lake Fork is in the heart of East Texas within 90 miles of the DFW metroplex. Lake Fork holds every record for big bass in Texas. When B.A.S.S. and Hasbro created the Bass Monopoly Game it was none other than Lake Fork that set as the Boardwalk position. There is no fishery that has ever surpassed Lake Fork for quality and numbers of Bass. As a Lake Fork Guide I am proud to be a part of the greatest Lake in the sport of Bass Fishing.
Having twenty three years experience on Lake Fork and success in both FLW and B.A.S.S. events gives me the qualifications to teach you the latest techniques to catch that Lake Fork trophy bass of a lifetime. EAST TEXAS FISHING REPORT
East Texas Fishing Report
by Matt Williams
Outdoors Writer
FORK - Lake Fork is at normal level and stained up some of the creeks, clearer down south. Water temp is in the low-to-mid-60s.
Fishing guide Gary Paris reported catching numerous quality fish in the 5-9 pound range using Carolina and Texas rig lizards on offshore flats and ridges in 4-6 feet of water. Lots of bass also cruising and bedding in the skinny water. A 13 pounder was caught out of two feet of water on a jig early last week.
Crappie fishermen are making some decent hauls using jigs and minnows around the FM 515 bridge crossing and shallow brush piles. No report on catfish, but there should be plenty of big channel cats roaming the flats.
NACOGDOCHES - The lake is about two inches below full pool and fairly clear. Water temp is in the mid-60s.
Lots of bass tooling around in the shallows now as the spawn jumps into full swing. Crawfish cranks, Texas rig lizards and weightless Senkos are the orders of the day over shallow grass flats, points and shorelines in water ranging 1-5 feet.
Crappie fishermen are picking up keepers using shiners and jigs around brush piles at mid-range depths. A few anglers are reporting fair results on Roadrunners and small jigs cast along outside grass lines.
ATHENS - Lake Athens is about four inches high and fairly clear. Water temp is in the low 60s.
Jerry Hanson at Lake Athens Marina said bass and crappie fishing has been excellent. Bass are taking Rat-L-Traps, Senkos and spinnerbaits worked from the bank out to six feet. Sight fishermen are scoring some quality fish using plastics.
Crappie are holding in 3-4 feet of and taking live shiners free lined with no weight around shallow grass. Bank fishermen are pulling in some nice keepers up to 15 inches.
PALESTINE - Lake Palestine is about six inches high and stained. Water temp is in the low 60s
Stan Johnston at Porter's Sporting Goods said crappie fishing is outstanding in skinny water, 1-4 feet around brush and stumps. Lots of limits reported.
Bass are excellent to 10 pounds on plastics soaked in 1-4 of water. Johnson said Kickapoo Creek and Cade's Lake areas have been especially good. Catfish are good on punch bait and cut shad fished on bottom in 4-8 feet of water. White bass are good up the Neches. Hybrids are taking spoons and minnows fished on main lake points. Johnson said there has been quite a bit o schooling activity reported.
SAM RAYBURN - The lake is about a foot high and fairly clear down south, stained up north. Water temp is in the low 60s and rising.
Ann Thomasson-Wilson said bass fishing has been good. A 12.1 pounder reported on a Texas rig lizard flipped around willow bushes in 1-3 feet of water. Good numbers of fish on beds. Several fish in the 8-10 pound range reported during the last week, mainly on Super Flukes, lizards, Senkos and Rogues.
Crappie fishing as been good on 1/8 ounce jigs and Roadrunners fished slowly along outside grass lines in 8-12 feet. Wade fishermen are making some decent hauls out of flooded brush brush and willows.
Catfish are fair. Trotliners are making some good hauls to 10 pounds using shrimp and cut bait.
RICHLAND CHAMBERS - RC is at normal level and stained. Water temp is in the low 60s and warming.
Bass fishermen are reporting some decent results to seven pounds, mainly on Texas rig lizards fished slowly from bank out three feet in the backs of creeks. Spinnerbaits worked tight to cover also has been effective.
Larry Winters at Midway Landing said crappie are beginning to filter into the backs of the creeks. Reports are mixed; no limits to speak of. Catfish are good to 10 pounds on shad and punch bait soaked on windy shore lines and points.
White bass are taking spoons and slabs bounced on points in 20-25 feet of water.
PINKSTON - Lake Pinkston is at normal level and fairly clear. Water temp is in the mid-60s.
Ted Lovell of Center says bass are fair to seven pounds on wacky worms and Texas rig craws fished around spawning beds in skinny water. Jigs are producing a few fish, as well.
Crappie are scattered. Numbers are hard to come by, but quality has been good using 1/8 Roadrunners and jigs.
CEDAR CREEK - The lake is at normal level and stained. Water temp is the low-to-mid-60s.
Fishing guide Jason Barber said crappie fishermen are picking up limits using long poles and spinning gear in shallow water, 1-3 feet in the backs of creeks on minnows and jigs. Barber is having the best luck tipping his jigs with Berkley Power Nibbles.
The black bass bite is improving daily. Barber suggests probing shallow water, 1-4 feet, using Texas rig lizards and creature baits. A few fish taking spinnerbaits, as well.
Catfishing has been outstanding on windy shorelines and points in 1-4 feet water. Cut shad and punch bait are the main orders of the day.
TOLEDO BEND - T-Bend is nearing two feet below normal. The water is fairly clear, surface temp in the low-to-mid-60s.
Rhonda Shively at Bill's Landing said crappie fishing has been slow due to falling water. Catfishermen have been bothered by the high winds. Some good runs reported by anglers who get out early. Several blues to 25 pounds, mainly on cut baits. Best sets are in 8-12 feet of water. The bigger fish are coming on river shelves. Noodlers are making some good hauls in shallow water.
The bass spawn is in full swing in shallow water with some solid fish up to nine pounds reported. Fishing guide Stephen Johnston suggests working Texas rig and Carolina rig brushhogs and lizards around outside buck brush, willow bushes and inside grass lines. Spro frogs, floating worms, Senkos and wacky worms are producing bites in the same areas.
